YEMEN - Militants Open Fire On British Embassy In Sanaa

On 26 July 2010 suspected militants of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) opened fire on the British Embassy in Sanaa, the capital. The gunmen reportedly used a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) and fired automatic weapons at the main gate of the facility while driving by at high speed. Shards from the RPG were later found inside the compound's walls. Security officials were dispatched to the embassy, but the militants had already fled. Initial reports indicate that three police officers guarding the embassy were injured in the attack; there were no reports of casualties among the embassy staff. AQAP militants have carried out at least five brazen attacks in the past month on high-level targets, including intelligence headquarters and government buildings.
