On 4 September 2023, Niger’s military junta reopened the country’s airspace to all domestic and international commercial flights after nearly a month-long closure. Niger’s airspace had been closed since 6 August after the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) threatened to intervene to reverse the 26 July military takeover of government and restore civilian rule.
