In the early morning hours on 31 May 2024, the U.S. and British militaries conducted airstrikes against at least 13 Houthi facilities in the capital Sanaa, the Red Sea port of Hodeida and other locations across Yemen. The airstrikes targeted Houthi surface-to-air weapons, command and control sites, and underground facilities. At least 16 people were killed and 42 more were injured in the strikes. U.S. officials stated that the strikes were a response to a recent uptick in Houthi attacks on ships in the Red Sea.
