On 10 October 2020, tens of thousands of anti-government protesters gathered in Tel Aviv and elsewhere in Israel, calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. One of the organizers claimed that an estimated 200,000 people participated in the countrywide demonstrations. In Tel Aviv’s Habima and Rabin Square, thousands of demonstrators gathered during the evening hours. Minor scuffles occurred between protesters and police officers in Tel Aviv, when police officers attempted to stop protesters from marching on the streets. Authorities arrested four protesters. An additional four protesters were arrested in Jerusalem. The nationwide protests have been ongoing since July, defying a law that bans people from gathering more than 1 km (0.5 mi) away from their homes. The ban on gatherings was enacted in September in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
