On 3 September 2024, the Kenya Aviation Workers Union commenced an indefinite strike at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (HKJK/NBO) to demonstrate its opposition to ongoing negotiations to lease the facility to Indian conglomerate Adani Group. Although Kenya Airports Authority maintains that airport operations remain unaffected, the work stoppage reportedly caused delays of up to four hours during passenger check-in procedures. However, there have been no reports of notable flight cancellations due to the strike. Union leaders have warned that the strike will continue until airport officials confirm the suspension of stakeholder engagements with Adani Group.
