On 30 July 2023, a bomb detonated during a political rally organized by the Jamiat Ulema Islam party in the northwestern town of Khar in the Bajur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province — located near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. A suicide bomber detonated his explosives-laden vest close to the stage where several senior members of the party were seated. At least 54 people were killed and more than 200 others were injured in the blast. The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attack.
