On 2 March 2023, the U.S. Embassy in Riga issued a Demonstration Alert, which reads in part as follows:
“Location: Projected to start at the Freedom Monument, along Brivibas Street, Elizabates Street and finish at the Ministry of Defense and Esplanade in Riga.
“Event: Demonstration and rally expected, if held, to take place on March 4, 2023, between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to protest plans to institute mandatory enlisted service into Latvia’s Armed Forces.”
