On 24 June 2024, the Malaysian government announced that police officers arrested eight individuals suspected of ties with the Islamic State militant group and foiled possible threats against the country’s monarch, prime minister and other officials. According to the home affairs minister, the arrests were made during a police operation carried out in the states of Johor, Kelatan, Perak and Selangor over the past weekend following investigations that were underway since the previous month. The minister also stated that there is no threat to public safety but advised the general populace to remain vigilant.
