At approximately 1400 local time (2000 UTC) on 14 February 2024, gunfire broke out near a parking garage just west of Union Station in downtown Kansas City, Missouri, following a parade to celebrate the local football team’s recent victory in the national annual championship game. One person was killed in the shooting and 21 others suffered gunshot wounds. Eight of the injured victims had immediately life-threatening injuries and seven others had life-threatening injuries, according to a local fire department official. Police officers recovered multiple firearms and detained three individuals in relation to the event. An investigation is underway to determine a possible motive for the shooting.
