At approximately 1600 local time (0900 UTC) on 3 October 2023, a gunman opened fire in the Siam Paragon Mall, located in the Pathum Wan district in central Bangkok. Eyewitnesses reported hearing more than 10 gunshots as hundreds of people fled the shopping center into nearby streets. According to the local police commander, two people were killed in the shooting and five others were injured. A special operations police team later apprehended the suspect without confrontation inside the nearby Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok. Police officers have closed the Siam metro station and cordoned off several streets in the area. An investigation has been launched to determine a motive for the shooting.
