At approximately 1130 local time (0730 UTC) on 9 February 2024, a gunman opened fire at a market in the city of Rustavi, located nearly 20 km (12 mi) southeast of the capital Tbilisi, killing four people. Another individual was wounded. Police officers arrested the assailant shortly after the shooting. The assailant was known to two of his victims: one of those killed was his uncle and the wounded individual is his cousin. Authorities are investigating to establish a motive for the shooting.
