At approximately 1300 local time (0830 UTC) on 2 November 2021, gunmen attacked the Mohammad Daud Khan military hospital in the capital Kabul. The assault began when a suicide bomber targeted the hospital before an unknown number of gunmen entered the facility and engaged in a gunbattle with Taliban security forces. Reports indicate that at least 19 people were killed and approximately 50 more suffered injuries. There has so far been no claim of responsibility for the attack, although witnesses allege the gunmen were Islamic State militants.
