On 31 January 2021, unidentified gunmen traveling in a car opened fire on a vehicle carrying activists of the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN), El Salvador’s main opposition party, in downtown San Salvador, the capital. The attack occurred in front of one of the offices of the FMLN following a campaign rally for the party’s candidate for mayor of San Salvador. Two people were killed and five others were injured. Authorities have arrested three people in connection to the attack.
