On 20 March 2024, heavily armed insurgents launched an attack on the Gwadar Port Authority complex in the southwestern province of Baluchistan. A local police official stated that a suicide bomber detonated a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device near the site immediately before the gunmen set off grenades and attempted to enter the complex, which hosts government buildings and the offices of security and intelligence agencies. Security personnel then engaged the assailants in a gunbattle and killed all eight attackers. Two soldiers were also killed in the fighting. The outlawed Baluchistan Liberation Army (BLA) separatist group claimed responsibility for the attack.
