On the evening of 1 August 2024, U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced heightened security measures in England following instances of unrest in the cities of London, Southport and Hartlepool in relation to a 29 July fatal stabbing attack targeting minors during a dance workshop in Southport. Police officers will increase patrols in the coming days in an attempt to prevent further violence from occurring. Additionally, hundreds of mosques have announced plans to strengthen security measures ahead of planned demonstrations to condemn the Southport attack in multiple cities over the weekend of 3-4 August. Such measures include increased CCTV monitoring and security guards stationed on site.
