On 18 February 2024, Houthi rebels launched a missile attack on the Belize-flagged Rubymar Cargo ship traveling in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait that links the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden. The crew abandoned the ship after an explosion near the vessel caused damage. The U.K. Maritime Trade Operations reported on 19 February that the ship was anchored in the strait and the crew members are safe and unharmed. The vessel is registered in the U.K. and was operated by a Lebanese firm at the time of the attack.
