At approximately 2030 local time (1730 UTC) on 23 October 2021, an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated at a restaurant in the northern Komamboga suburb of the capital Kampala. A police spokesman stated that three suspects, who disguised themselves as patrons, placed a plastic bag with the IED under a table and left the scene. The explosion killed a staff member of the restaurant. In addition, three people were wounded in the blast, of which two were in critical condition. While the Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the bombing, the police spokesman maintains that there is no evidence to support the group’s claim.
