On 29 July 2022, a regional justice minister was killed in the southern city of Baidoa, located in South-West state, when an improvised explosive device detonated outside of a mosque after the conclusion of Friday prayers. The deceased minister’s son was also killed in the blast and at least 11 people were injured. No organization has claimed responsibility for the attack; however, authorities view the al-Shabab militant group as the likeliest perpetrator.
