On 25 June 2024, a contingent of 400 Kenyan police officers landed in Port-au-Prince’s Toussaint Louverture International Airport (MTPP/PAP). The police officers represent the first deployment of security personnel assigned to assist Haitian security forces as a part of the U.N.-authorized Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission to Haiti. Among the initial deployment of MSS personnel are members of the specialized Kenyan Rapid Deployment Unit, Anti-Stock Theft Unit, General Service Unit, and Border Patrol Unit. A second deployment of 600 Kenyan police officers is scheduled to arrive in Haiti at a later date. The MSS force will be comprised of 2,500 security personnel — 1,000 of whom will be Kenyan – to be deployed incrementally. Barbados, Bangladesh, the Bahamas, Chad, and Jamaica also plan to contribute personnel to the MSS contingent in Haiti.
