Late on 29 October 2023, a mob stormed Makhachkala Uytash Airport (URML/MCX) in the Dagestan region after a flight that originated in Tel Aviv, Israel, landed at the facility. The crowd breached the airport’s barriers, rushed onto the tarmac and examined the passports of several travelers in search of Israeli nationals. The Ministry of Health in Dagestan announced that more than 20 people were injured in the violence, including civilians and police officers. Two of the victims remain in critical condition. Authorities arrested at least 60 people in connection to the event. The Federal Agency for Air Transport (FATA) announced the closure of the facility following the event; the airport is slated to remain closed until 0259 local time on 6 November (2359 UTC on 5 November).
