On the morning of 8 July 2023, members of Jaish al-Adl, a Baluch militant group, denotated multiple explosive devices and launched an attack on a police station in the eastern city of Zahedan — located near Iran’s eastern border with Afghanistan and Pakistan. Police officers engaged in a gunbattle with the assailants who attempted to enter the police station. At least six people were killed, including two police officers and four gunmen. The militant group claimed that the assault was in retaliation to the deaths of protesters killed by security personnel during September 2022 demonstrations over the death of a young woman in police custody.
