A police convoy struck a roadside improvised explosive device (IED) in southeastern Chhattisgarh state’s Dantewada district. At least 10 policemen and one civilian were killed in the blast. At the time of the explosion, the police officers were returning from operations carried out against left-wing Maoist guerrillas. Although no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, local authorities suspect local Maoist guerilla groups to be behind the planting of the IED and have since placed security forces in the Bastar, Dantewada, Bijapur, Kanker, Kondagaon, Narayanpur and Sukma and districts on high alert
