On 18 January 2024, residents of the Solino neighborhood of the capital Port-au-Prince sheltered in place due to a four-day escalation in gang violence in the area. Gang members battling for control of Solino exchanged gunfire and set up flaming barricades across the area. The criminal groups responsible for the siege are currently unclear. In response, Haitian National Police have been deployed to the community in an attempt to restore order.

Analyst Comment: The Solino neighborhood is reportedly home to numerous police officers. If the neighborhood were to fall completely under the control of gangs, then concerns exist that other, previously safer, neighborhoods may become vulnerable.
