At approximately 1900 local time (1600 UTC) on 17 October 2022, a Russian military aircraft conducting a training flight crashed into a multi-story apartment building in the southwestern city of Yeysk, located in Russia’s Krasnodar region. The crash caused a large explosion and fire at the site, killing 13 people and injuring 19 others. Emergency personnel rescued 68 people during search and rescue operations. Two crew members abord the Sukhoi Su-34 aircraft successfully ejected shortly before the crash. Russian military officials claim that engine failure during takeoff caused the crash. Russia’s Investigative Committee has launched a criminal probe into the event.
