On 22 June 2024, the Russian military conducted drone and missile strikes targeting power stations in northeastern and southern Ukraine. The attack damaged buildings and infrastructure in the cities of Kharkiv and Lviv, as well as in the Ivano-Frankivsk and Zaporizhzhia regions. In Kharkiv, three people were killed and 18 others suffered injuries. At least two workers suffered injuries in the central Zaporizhzhia region. The Ukrainian military stated that its air defense system shot down 12 of the 16 Russian missiles and all 13 drones. Russian attacks on energy stations began in late March and have destroyed half of Ukraine’s electricity-generating capacity, resulting in frequent blackouts across the country.
