On the morning of 24 July 2023, the Russian military struck down two explosives-laden drones that targeted two nonresidential buildings in the capital Moscow. One of the two projectiles fell on Komsomolsky Avenue and damaged the roof of a building situated approximately 200 m (660 ft) from the Russian Defense Ministry building. Another drone struck an office building in the southern part of the city, causing damage to multiple upper floors. No casualties were reported due to the drone strikes. Russian officials accused the Ukrainian military of conducting the strikes, which followed an attack by the Russian military on the Ukrainian port city Odesa. The Transfiguration Cathedral, a historic cathedral belonging to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, was destroyed in Odesa. The Ukrainian military has not taken responsibility for the attack on Moscow, although Ukrainian officials anonymously stated that Ukraine’s military intelligence conducted the attack.
