On 21 February 2023, the U.S. Embassy in Skopje issued a Security Alert, which reads in part as follows: “The Government of North Macedonia reported that bomb threats were received in several locations in Skopje on February 21, 2023. The threats were emailed to organizations and institutions including: four schools; President Pendarovski’s residence at Villa Vodno; the Administrative Court; the Aleksandar Palace and Marriott Hotels; the East Gate and Biser Malls; GTC City Shopping Center; Boris Trajkovski Sports Center; the offices of the Football Federation of Macedonia;, residential complexes Djevahir City and Flatron; the main railway station; the Museum of the City of Skopje; the Archeological Museum; the Museum of Natural Sciences; the Mother Theresa Museum; and the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle. Please follow all directions from local police as the locations are secured and declared safe by authorities.
“There has been an increase in reported bomb threats in Skopje and other locations including Kumanovo, Prilep, and Bitola during recent weeks at public transit stations, airports, hotels, shopping centers, sporting centers, and schools. Local law enforcement has investigated each threat, and thus far, all of the bomb threats have been false alarms. If you happen to be at a location that receives a bomb threat, follow the directions of local security personnel and police on-site.”
