On 9 January 2023, the U.S. Embassy in Tegucigalpa issued a Security Alert, which reads in part as follows: “As part of its plan to address extortion, the government of Honduras has expanded the state of exception that went in to effect December 6, 2022. The State of Exception will be in effect for a further 45 days, from January 6, 2023, and will include an additional 73 municipalities throughout the country. During this time, there may be restrictions on freedom of movement and other rights in the named neighborhoods. Monitor local media for updates and information on restrictions in specific neighborhoods.”
