On 1 February 2024, a state of emergency was declared for the next 60 days in the departments of Áncash, Apurímac, Cusco, Huancavelica, Lima, Loreto and San Martín due to flooding, landslides and damage caused by heavy rains. The state of emergency is in effect in at least 24 districts situated in the aforementioned seven departments and allows for essential measures to be carried out immediately. The declaration will also allow for necessary goods such as food, medical supplies and fuel to be distributed.
