On 14 July 2023, the Peruvian government announced a 30-day extension to the ongoing state of emergency for several highways in the southern region of the country ahead of anti-government protests expected to take place on 19 July. The emergency measures will continue on the Southern Apurimac-Cusco-Arequipa road corridor, Southern Interoceanica road corridor, Panamericana Norte highway, Panamericana Sur highway, Central highway, Vía Los Libertadores, Fernando Belaunde Terry highway, Federico Basadre highway, and Binacional Puno-Tacna highway. While the state of emergency remains in effect, the Peruvian National Police, supported by military personnel, will enforce movement restrictions and bans on public gatherings on the roadways
