On 6 February 2024, the Peruvian government issued a decree, extending the ongoing state of emergency in the provinces of Putumayo and Mariscal Ramón Castilla, both located in Loreto department, for an additional 60 days beginning on 13 February. The state of emergency authorizes the Peruvian National Police and armed forces to maintain internal order to combat illicit activities. The emergency measures have been in effect in the two provinces for more than a year.
