At approximately 1500 local time (1030 UTC) on 5 October 2022, a suicide attacker detonated an explosive device at Al-Fatah Mosque near the Interior Ministry complex in the capital Kabul. At least two people were killed in the blast and 20 more were injured. Reports indicate that staff members of the Interior Ministry routinely attend the mosque. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack; however, the Islamic State in Khorasan Province group frequently carries out similar attacks in Kabul and across Afghanistan. This was the 23rd such mass casualty attack in Kabul since January 2022.
