Overnight on 1-2 February 2021, suspected al-Shabab militants fired mortar shells at Dusmareb Airport, also called Ugaas Noor Airport, located approximately 510 km (315 mi) northeast of the capital Mogadishu, while President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble, the president of Galmudug state and several other regional leaders were present to discuss implementing elections. Reports indicate the mortar shells struck several areas of the nearby city of Dusmareb. Four people suffered injuries in the attack, but none of the leaders were hurt. Security personnel closed all roads to the city and searched the area following the attack, later killing at least one militant and arresting another.
