On 6 November 2023, police officers fired tear gas and rubber bullets at thousands of right-wing protesters gathered outside the ruling Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) headquarters — located approximately 2 km (1 mi) northeast of central Madrid — to condemn legislation proposed by acting Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez that would give amnesty to Catalan separatist leaders. The protesters threw fireworks and glass bottles at police officers and attempted to bypass a police barrier erected outside the PSOE headquarters’ main entrance, prompting the officers to use force to disperse the crowd. Dozens of protesters sustained minor injuries in the clashes. At least three protesters were arrested. Additional anti-PSOE protests occurred in the cities of Barcelona, Murcia, Oviedo, Seville, Tarragona, Valencia, Valladolid and Zaragoza.
