On the evening of 2 March 2023, police officers fired tear gas at anti-government demonstrators who had gathered in San Martin Plaza in downtown Lima. Peruvians from the southern Puno region had arrived in the city to call for the resignation of interim President Dina Boluarte and the dissolution of Congress. There were no immediate reports of casualties connected to the incident. Supporters of former President Pedro Castillo, who was ousted in early December 2022, have called for additional demonstrations in the Puno region and the Madre de Dios region, on 3 and 4 March, respectively.
