On 17 December 2020, the U.K. Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) updated its travel advice for Iraq, which reads in part as follows: “3 January 2021 is the first anniversary of the killing of senior Iranian and Iraqi security leaders Qasim Soleimani and Abu-Mahdi al-Muhandis by the United States outside Baghdad International Airport. It is possible that the security situation could deteriorate in the period around this date.”
