Typhoon Saola (Goring) was located in the west Philippine Sea, approximately 290 km (180 mi) northeast of Aparri town in Luzon island’s Cagayan province, and was moving southwest at a speed of 2 kph (1 mph), according to the U.S. Joint Typhoon Warning Center. At that time, Saola had maximum sustained winds of 120 kph and gusts of up to 148 kph. On its current forecast track, Saola is expected to strengthen while moving south-southwest toward the eastern side of Luzon island. The storm is projected to bring heavy rainfall, landslides and gale-force winds to Batanes province, the eastern portion of Babuyan islands and eastern Cagayan municipality.
