On 15 February 2024, the Ukrainian military carried out a missile strike in the Russian city of Belgorod, located approximately 40 km (25 mi) from the Ukrainian border. Russian authorities stated that the projectiles hit a shopping center in the southwestern part of the city, as well a school stadium, killing at least seven individuals. Another 18 people were reportedly wounded. Following the missile strike, the Russian military stated that its air defense system shot down 14 missiles over the Belgorod region.
