At approximately 2030 local time (1130 UTC) on 6 August 2021, an unknown assailant stabbed four commuters aboard an Odakyu Line train near Seijogakuen-mae Station in the Setagaya Ward of the capital Tokyo before fleeing the scene. At least one of the victims suffered serious injuries. As a precaution, services along the Odakyu Line were suspended between Shinjuku and Mukogaoka Yuen station. Authorities later captured the suspect in the city’s Suginami ward, but have not indicated a potential motive for the stabbings.
