At approximately 2130 local time (1830 UTC) on 7 February 2024, the U.S. military conducted a drone strike targeting a vehicle in the eastern Mashtal area of the capital Baghdad. Three people were killed in the strike, including a high-ranking leader of the Iran-backed militia Kata’ib Hizballah. The deceased militia commander was responsible for the group’s operations in Syria.

Analyst Comment: Kata’ib Hizballah, or the Hizballah Brigades, is believed to be responsible for the drone attack on the Tower 22 military outpost in northeastern Jordan that killed three U.S. soldiers on 28 January.
