On the afternoon of 15 September 2024, U.S. Secret Service agents opened fire toward a gunman at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida — where former President Donald Trump was playing golf. The gunman subsequently fled the scene in a vehicle and was later arrested in nearby Martin County. In the lead-up to the shooting, the agents spotted the gunman who had pointed his firearm through the fence surrounding the golf course; Trump, the Republican presidential nominee for the upcoming November election, was approximately 300-500 yards (275-455 m) away at the time. No injuries were reported in the shooting. According to the Palm Beach County sheriff, an AK-47 style rifle, two bags and a camera mounted on the fence were recovered from the scene. The FBI is investigating the incident as a possible assassination attempt of the former president.
