In the morning hours of 30 March 2024, an assailant armed with knives took four hostages inside the Café Petticoat nightclub in the central Dutch town of Ede, located approximately 75 km (45 mi) southeast of Amsterdam. Authorities evacuated approximately 150 nearby residences and stopped train traffic to Ede amid an hours-long standoff. Following negotiations with local officials, the assailant released all four hostages unharmed and surrendered to police without any confrontation. The man had issued unspecified threats in the past and was known to local police. An investigation remains underway to determine a motive for the incident.
