On 3 October 2021, a bomb detonated outside the entrance of the Eidgah Mosque in the capital Kabul amid a memorial service for the mother of a Taliban spokesman. Authorities did not provide details regarding the type of bomb that caused the explosion. According to reports, at least five people were killed, and at least 20 others were injured in the blast. Taliban forces cordoned off the area following the attack. A Taliban spokesperson stated that three suspects have been arrested. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack; however, the Islamic State militant group has carried out similar attacks against the Taliban in the past.
