A logistical convoy belonging to the U.N. Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) struck a roadside improvised explosive device in an area located north of the central city of Mopti. The convoy was en route to Timbuktu, situated approximately 400 km (250 mi) to the north. The explosion killed two Egyptian peacekeepers and wounded four others. The blast followed a separate attack launched by Islamist militants hours earlier on Malian troops stationed in the Gao region, which resulted in two deaths.
