At approximately 1215 local time (1115 UTC) on 23 December 2022, a gunman opened fire on pedestrians along Rue d’Enghien in the upscale 10th arrondissement of central Paris, the capital. According to a local official, the gunman fired shots at people outside a Kurdish cultural center, a nearby restaurant and a barber shop. At least three people were killed and three more were wounded in the shooting — one of the victims remains in critical condition. Police officers arrested the suspect at the scene and advised travelers to avoid the immediate area while an investigation is underway. Authorities are looking into the possibility that the attack may be racially motivated; the assailant, a French national, was previously arrested for attempted homicides in 2021 and 2016.
