On 11 September 2023, multiple clashes between police officers and groups of hooded individuals occurred in the Santiago communes of Estación Central, Puente Alto and Peñalolén during demonstrations organized to mark the 50th anniversary of the military coup led by Augusto Pinochet. Police officers closed the San Pablo metro station, along with several roads in the affected communes, as the officers fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse protesters manning the roadblocks. In addition, authorities reported that individuals threw Molotov cocktails at the 39th Police Station in El Bosque, the 45th Police Station in Cerro Navia, the 50th Police Station in San Joaquín and the 54th Police Station in Huechuraba. At least seven people were injured in the violence. Authorities arrested 25 individuals.
