On 21 February 2024, the U.S. Embassy in N’Djamena issued a Security Alert, which reads in part as follows: “There have been recent incidents of foreigners being kidnapped in Chad.

“U.S. citizens are reminded that violent crimes, such as armed robbery, carjacking, kidnapping, and muggings, have occurred in Chad. Armed non-state actors may attack with little or no warning, targeting foreigners, local security forces, and civilians.

“The U.S. Government has extremely limited ability to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens in Chad as U.S. Government employees must obtain special authorization to travel outside of the capital.”
