On 11 June 2024, the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad issued a Security Alert, which reads in part as follows: “The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad is monitoring reports of attacks and threats on businesses and institutions that are perceived to be affiliated with the United States. U.S. citizens should be aware of this possibility, monitor local media for updates, and exercise caution in the vicinity of U.S.-based or affiliated businesses and other institutions.
“The State Department’s Travel Advisory for Iraq remains at Level 4: Do Not Travel due to terrorism, kidnapping, armed conflict, civil unrest, and Mission Iraq’s limited capacity to provide support to U.S. citizens.”
