On 26 March 2024, a suicide bomber attacked a convoy transporting Chinese nationals in the Shangla district of the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The assailant crashed their explosives-laden vehicle into the convoy, killing all five Chinese passengers and their Pakistani driver. The convoy was traveling from the Pakistani capital Islamabad to the province’s Dasu district, where China Gezhouba Group Company is constructing a hydroelectric dam. No group has claimed responsibility for the bombing.
