On the evening of 29 May 2024, police officers clad in riot gear deployed tear gas and pepper spray to disperse demonstrators marching through Paris’ 8th arrondissement to protest the ongoing Israeli military actions in the Gaza strip. More than 1,000 people marched across central Paris as part of a pro-Palestine rally, during which police officers blockaded the streets in order to prevent protesters from advancing toward the Israeli Embassy. There were no reports of injuries or arrests following the clashes. Demonstrations condemning the Israeli military actions in Gaza have occurred in Paris in recent days and are likely to continue amid Israeli attacks on the southern Gaza city of Rafah. Associated demonstrations were also reported in other French cities, including Marseille and Lille.
